Import. Review. Download.
Three steps from a pile of exchange exports to the figures your tax return asks for.
- 01
Import your files
Drop in CSV or XLSX exports from Coinbase, Binance, Kraken, Crypto.com, Revolut and more, use our template, or add trades by hand. Each file is recognised and checked as it loads.
- 02
Review what Ledger flags
Ledger the owl lists what needs your decision: transfers between your own wallets, deposits with no known cost, unfamiliar transaction types. Nothing is guessed silently.
- 03
Download your report
Get a PDF and CSVs with your gains, income and form figures. Every disposal shows the rule that matched it and the official source, so you or your accountant can check it.
A tax report you can trust, without paying for it or handing over your data
Most crypto tax tools let you import for free and then charge for the report, usually priced by how many transactions you have. They also process your history on their servers. CryptoTaxOwl was built the other way round.
The report is free
The download is the normal end of the flow, not a checkout. No tiers, no watermark, no limit on transactions.
Calculated on your device
Files are read in your browser, in an ad-free, isolated part of the site. Nothing is uploaded, and nothing is kept after you close the tab.
Shows its working
Each figure carries the rule behind it, such as “30-day rule, TCGA 1992 s106A”, with a link to the official guidance.
Honest about gaps
Missing purchase history, unmatched transfers and assumptions you accept are listed in the report, not hidden.
Smaller jobs, same care
Check one trade, total your staking rewards, tidy up exports, or look up when your return is due.

Every change to the rules data or the calculations is dated in the changelog.
- Rule change · Canada
The government cancelled the proposed increase in the capital gains inclusion rate. The rate stays at one-half, which the Canada calculator applies.
- Rule change · Germany
The Federal Ministry of Finance published a revised letter on the income tax treatment of crypto-assets, replacing the 10 May 2022 letter, with expanded record-keeping duties.
- Rule change · US
Basis must be tracked wallet by wallet rather than across all accounts (Rev. Proc. 2024-28), and brokers begin reporting gross proceeds of digital-asset sales on Form 1099-DA.
Is CryptoTaxOwl really free, including the report?
Yes. Importing, reviewing and downloading the PDF and CSV report are all free, with no transaction limit and no watermark. The site is paid for by a small number of ads on content pages like this one. There are never ads inside the calculator.
Do you upload my transaction history?
No. Your files are read and calculated inside your browser, in a separate part of the site that has no ads or analytics. You can check it yourself in a couple of minutes with the steps on how it works.
Will you ask for my API keys or wallet addresses?
Never. CryptoTaxOwl works from files you download yourself. We will never ask for API keys, passwords, wallet addresses, recovery phrases or payment.
Is this tax advice?
No. CryptoTaxOwl calculates figures from your files using published rules and explains where each one comes from. It doesn’t give advice. If your situation is complicated, speak to a qualified tax adviser. See the disclaimer.
What if my country isn’t listed?
Use the generic calculator. You choose the currency, tax-year start and cost method, and get a clear gains ledger. It says plainly that it isn’t applying your country’s specific rules.
Your files, your device, your report.
Pick your country and start importing. It takes a few minutes, and it costs nothing.
